Sylv Litz
Multidisciplinary Artist
Based in Tejas

Sylv was raised in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México. Formative experiences before and after immigrating to the United States remain central to their practice. At eleven, Sylv relocated to Houston, Texas as a parachute child, moving countries while their biological parent remained in their country of origin. After receiving a scholarship to the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Sylv began their formal pursuit of the arts. They earned a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of North Texas and an MFA in Multidisciplinary Studies from the Mount Royal School of Art at Maryland Institute College of Art, working concurrently with the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting and the Sound Art department at MICA. Starting at 9 years old, painting and drawing continue to be central to Sylv Litz’s practice. Withstudies in multidisciplinary media including printmaking, sculpture, installation, and mixed media, their work examines family systems, constructed identity, and material transformation. More recent bodies of work turn inward, transposing the experiences & emotions of various mental health struggles into color. They explore confronting memory fragmentation following electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), the instability of manic and depressive cycles, psychiatric hospitalization, and the altered terrain of postpartum experience. At its core, the practice is an existential inquiry rooted in reclamation, integration, and healing
